Relationship Builders is Andy Quinn and Susan Truett. Like you, we have each suffered major personal challenges. We have responded by working hard for healing and happiness, and have achieved good measures of both. This hard work has collectively included individual and group therapy, twelve-step programs, meditation practice, and retreats of up to 10 days. We have learned how to be healthy, happy and successful in relationships.
We approach our work with warmth and professionalism. You can expect us to answer our own phones, create our own schedules and do our own administrative work. Your counselor is a real person who also sees that you are a real person.
Susan Truett has been counseling for 30 years, the last 10 of which she has specialized in marriage counseling. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) who takes a holistic approach to your health, which includes body+mind+heart+spirit aspects. She is alert to how your own values, strengths, experience and supports can contribute to the solutions you seek.
Theoretical interests and influences include Freud, Adler, Maslow, and Rogers. Philosophical influences include Victor Frankl, attachment theory and existential and Buddhist psychology. Organizational affiliations of the last decade include Lakeland Montessori schools, St. David’s Episcopal Church, and La Leche League. Personal interests include yoga, gardening, theater and the arts in general.
Her training in marriage counseling includes teachers such as Michelle Weiner-Davis, the original Divorce Buster; and John Gottman, the University of Washington ‘Love Lab’ scientist. Helping people save and strengthen their marriages is a passion. She has also successfully assisted people with problems such as sexual abuse, rage, and compulsive controlling, as well as employment issues such as workplace challenges, disability, rehabilitation, and retirement.
Susan is in love with and married to Andy Quinn, and together they have a teenage daughter. These relationships have been both the greatest gift, and the newest challenge/call to growth in her life.
Andy Quinn is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a Certified Addictions Professional (CAP). He has been a professional counselor for 22 years, 15 of those in private practice. Prior to becoming a counselor, he was a mathematics professor and a U.S. Marine Corps officer.
Andy is particularly studious about his work and has extensive training and continuing study in the areas of compulsive behaviors, such as substance abuse, alcoholism, sexual compulsions, and gambling. He has two ongoing groups available to support the recovery work of people seeking to free themselves from compulsive and addictive behaviors.
Andy’s personal passions are stewardship of the environment, meditation practice and family. He has been a member of Sierra Club for 20 years, and has been involved in outdoor pursuits his entire life. He has successfully hiked the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada and the Continental Divide Trail, Mexico to Canada.
Andy has been involved in Vipassana meditation practice since 1994, and attended numerous 10-day meditation courses. He leads a local meditation community in Polk County, with regular group meditation and bi-annual meditation courses at Bok Tower.
He is the local Sierra Club outings leader, and a National Sierra outings leader, most recently leading a group of 10 hikers off trail in the Wind River range in Wyoming. Some years he can be persuaded to lead therapeutic outdoor adventures.
